We’re thrilled to unveil the new logo for the “Rainbow Rhythms” Erasmus+ project! This vibrant design encapsulates the spirit of our mission to empower young people across the EU through art and education.
💡 Honoring Keith Haring’s Legacy
Our logo draws inspiration from the bold and unmistakable style of Keith Haring, the legendary American queer artist and activist.
Who Was Keith Haring?
Keith Haring moved to New York City in 1978 and began using the city as his canvas, making chalk drawings in subway stations. His vibrant, bold designs quickly became iconic and are instantly recognizable, with their energetic lines, interlocking human figures and bold patterns that continue to resonate today. Over time, his art appeared everywhere – from public murals and nightclubs to galleries and museums around the world. Haring was also deeply committed to activism, particularly in raising awareness about AIDS. He passed away from AIDS-related complications on February 16, 1990, at the young age of 31 years old. Despite his untimely death, his work and advocacy left a lasting mark, and his legacy lives on through his art, charitable foundations, and continued influence on contemporary art and culture.
Haring’s pop art was more than just visually striking; it was a vehicle for social change, addressing crucial issues like safe sex, AIDS awareness, and LGBTQI+ rights. His graffiti-inspired creations, defined by bold lines and vivid colors, spoke a universal language of advocacy and hope among the queer community of the time. During the 1980s, Haring’s artistic work brought critical visibility to the LGBTQI+ community’s struggles and basic human rights, making him and his vivid artworks perfect sources of inspiration for “Rainbow Rhythms”. Our project echoes his ethos and celebrates his ‘artivism’ by using visual arts to promote the Emotional, Relationship, and Sexuality Education (ERSE) framework, closely linked to Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) approaches, aiming to raise awareness and drive action on LGBTQI+ rights and inclusive sexual education especially among young people and their parents and relatives. 🌈
🎨 Celebrating Local Talent: Jane Reeves
The “Rainbow Rhythms” partners are excited to share that our bold logo was created by Jane Reeves (she/her), a talented freelance graphic designer from Cyprus and a proud member of the local LGBTQI+ community. Jane’s design perfectly embodies the vibrant energy and inclusivity that “Rainbow Rhythms” stands for and advocates.
This collaboration underscores our commitment to supporting local queer artists and their allies while advancing Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) through the ERSE framework. By showcasing Jane’s creativity, we’re amplifying the voices of the LGBTQI+ community and promoting an inclusive space for art and education. We’re looking forward to future collaborations with more queer artists and allies in the next stages of our project!
